Why Millennials are Terrible at Making Career Decisions
Millennials are infamous for being disloyal to companies. We are the job-hoppers, the spoiled lazy generation with bloated ego, who lack persistence and patience.
I admit that's true. All of these happen because we are terrible at making career decisions. We start with the wrong question for ourselves. We are set up for a wrong quest: "FOLLOW YOUR PASSION. DO WHAT YOU LOVE."
The problem is that PASSION is not a destination, but a path. We will never be able to find our true passion. The search for passion is a source of discontent.
It is similar to the journey of finding our PERFECT mate - we can never be satisfied, because there is no such a person as a perfect match. It is similar to the journey of finding HAPPINESS. There is no way to happiness — happiness is the way.
Career decisions should NOT come from asking "What do I love most?" or "What do I want to do for the rest of my life?" It must come from the question: "What kind of life do I want to set up for myself?".
Take a step back and see the big picture of our life, not our career on its own. Because WORK is part of LIFE. There is no such thing as WORK-LIFE separation. Our WORK defines our LIFE.
